In Konami's 1986 classic Jackal, players take control of an armed jeep on a mission to rescue POWs. Colonel Decker, Lieutenant Bob, Sergeant Quint and Corporal Grey battle through an army of tanks, planes, and enemy soldiers in an amalgamation of 80s action game tropes.
This week features one of our favorite annual events: Awesome Games Done Quick! GDQ is a charity event where speedrunners finish games as quickly as humanly possible for your viewing enjoyment.
We'll have the livestream up in our shop, so you can check it out while you partake in some butter pecan.
Inspired by Italian Christmas cookies, we handcraft these cones from scratch and flavor them with anise seeds. To maintain a high level of festivity, we top each cone off with a ring of white chocolate.
This is our last week of operation before a brief Christmas break: we'll be closed starting on December 23rd and then open for the new year on January 2nd. Now's the time to load up!
To help you make your weekend a little more delicious, we're offering hand-packed pints of ice cream for just $6 all day long. Now is the time to stock up!
We're also upping our merch game and introducing Tubby Robot hats for the first time ever! We think they'd look pretty great perched atop the dome of the ice cream fan in your life. Our stock of enamel pins has been replenished as well, so like, just keep that in mind.
It's getting cold out there, but we don't mind a bit. We're open all year round, and this is our favorite time of year to serve the warmest, comfiest sundaes.
For your consideration: Hot Apple A La Mode, a fan favorite sundae made with fried hand-cut granny smith apples.
In this episode of Tubby Talk, Terry, Steve, and Chris dig through the many ways you can play retro games in the modern era. It's a surprisingly deep rabbit hole, with lots of options that balance convenience, price, and authenticity. Things get really sticky when you consider that "authenticity" is subject to interpretation.
Topics discussed include: emulation, display technology, retro hardware collection, game preservation, re-releases and compilations, and the psychology of nearly unlimited choices.
In this episode of Tubby Talk, Terry, Steve, and Chris complete their dash through Sonic the Hedgehog's checkered history. This installment focuses on the "bad years", which coincide with the arrival of 3D gaming consoles. We drill down into what we think went wrong, and try to make sense of the mythical "Sonic Cycle".
Games discussed include: Sonic Adventure, Sonice Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic '06, Sonic Colors, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Unleashed, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Generations, Sonic 4, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Sonic Advance, Sonic Rush, Sonic Lost World, Sonic Boom.
We are thrilled to announce a limited-time collaboration sundae with our friends at Sugar Philly: God Save the Kouign!
For those who are unfamiliar with it, a kouign-amann ( pronounced "kween ah-MON" ) is a delightful pastry known for its crispy, buttery texture. It was once described by the New York Times as "the fattiest pastry in all of Europe", and that's a better endorsement than we could ever come up with on our own.
To create our sundae, we split a kouign-amann, toast it, and serve it up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dollop of whipped cream.
Hurry on by, because supplies are extremely limited and we're only serving these decadent treats through Sunday the 29th. If you try the sundae and find yourself wanting more, bring your same-day receipt down the street to Sugar Philly and get 10% off any order of $5 or more!
OK, we're a *little* early, but we just ate this prototype and we're too excited to wait.
We're serving a special sundae in collaboration with our friends at Sugar Philly this weekend. IT'S A BIG SECRET NOW but stay tuned tomorrow for the full details!
