Capcom's 1991 title Captain Commando is a side-scrolling beat 'em up game. Players assume the role of one of four curious characters: Captain Commando, Mack the Knife, Ginzu the Ninja, and Baby Head. The character of the Captain was originally conceived as a fictional spokesperson of Capcom's US branch.
