Sega's 1989 title Golden Axe is a fantasy-themed beat-em-up. Heavily inspired by Conan the Barbarian and the artwork of Frank Frazetta, the game offers a choice between three playable fantasy tropes (barbarian, amazon, and dwarf) in a quest to eliminate the evil warlord known as Death Adder.
